TAEYEON (Girls’ Generation) releases her brand-new solo single, “Can’t Control Myself,” via SM Entertainment. Watch the video HERE.
The new song “Can't Control Myself” is a pop-punk ballad with lyrics penned by TAEYEON herself, capturing the emotions of a tumultuous romance. The music video features film-like aesthetics by combining cinematic composition and directing set against the backdrop of a theatrical stage. TAEYEON’s acting and her ability to convey the emotions of a character hurt by love further adds a sense of immersion. “Can't Control Myself” is the first release from her upcoming third full-length album, coming February 2022. This release follows the exciting news that TAEYEON has the highest album sales among solo female K-Pop artists over the past decade. According to Korea’s Gaon Chart’s decade-long cumulative album sales data, TAEYEON sold a total of 1,051,567 copies. This data is composed of ten years of cumulative album sales data (January 2011 - November 2021), from artists who debuted on the Gaon Chart after 2011. TAEYEON made her debut as a solo artist in 2015 with her first mini-album I. In addition to group and unit activities, TAEYEON made hit solo songs such as “I,” “Rain,” “Why,” “Fine,” “Four Seasons,” “Spark,” “Happy,” and “Weekend.”
Most recently, TAEYEON debuted in GOT the beat, the first unit of the new supergroup project Girls On Top, alongside BoA, Girls’ Generation’s HYOYEON, Red Velvet’s SEULGI and WENDY, and aespa’s KARINA and WINTER. Their first single “Step Back” was released January 3, after a debut performance of the song at 'SMTOWN 2022 : SMCU EXPRESS@KWANGYA,’ a free online concert held on New Year’s Eve (8 pm PT/11 pm ET). With over 51 million streams from 161 regions worldwide, the event broke the record as the most-viewed Korean online concert. Upcoming Girls On Top releases will feature various unit of combinations of female artists from SM created around specific themes and genres.
